Hundreds of years ago, Dragons went on a rampage nearly wiping out everyone until they mysteriously disappeared, leaving the last scraps of humanity landlocked against the desert and an impassable sea.

Fourteen-year-old Peter is just learning to control magic when his younger brother disappears, a powerful magician invades their city, and Peter is sent to a neighboring territory with two young guards to get help.

Instead, they find a Snuffle who sends them to find an item of unknown power. Armed with only the most basic skills, Peter sets off on a quest to his people, but what they find is not what it seems, and they soon discover that they are simply unwitting pawns in a game that will determine the fate of the world.
