Codex for Mobile App Development: Building iOS and Android Applications Using AI Coding Agent with React Native

Mobile development has always demanded a strange kind of tax: two operating systems, two sets of platform quirks, and build tooling that punishes even experienced developers. Codex for Mobile App Development is built for the moment that tax gets a lot smaller.

This is an AI coding assistant book for developers who already know React Native or are comfortable in TypeScript and are moving into mobile work. It is not a beginner's guide to React Native syntax. It is a practical, production oriented guide to building iOS and Android apps with an AI coding agent doing real architectural and implementation work alongside you, not just autocompleting the occasional line.

Every chapter follows the actual lifecycle of a real mobile app, from environment setup and prompt engineering for mobile developers through screens, navigation, state management, API integration, native device features, authentication, and security. Later chapters cover testing and debugging with AI support, performance optimization on real devices, and a full section on shipping: building for production, deploying with EAS and app store automation, and setting up CI/CD pipelines and release automation so updates go out without manual babysitting. A final chapter covers advanced agentic workflows for teams working across multiple mobile projects at once.

The book takes an Expo first, TypeScript first approach throughout, explaining why a well typed codebase gives an AI coding agent a vocabulary it can actually reason about, and why that discipline produces dramatically less correction and rework than untyped JavaScript. Every prompt pattern in the book is presented as a principle with an example, not a template to copy blindly, so you leave with a personal library of prompts adapted to your own project's conventions rather than someone else's toy app.

If you want a React Native development guide that treats an AI coding agent as a genuine collaborator across the full app lifecycle rather than a novelty for generating snippets, this book gives you the workflows to actually ship production apps to the App Store and Google Play faster.
