Adrien English series is a classic in the m/m mystery romance genre. It's earned its status by strong writing, strong characters, strong emotions and the most frustratingly fascinating love story between two imperfect men. Especially Jake will probably make you feel like throwing things, but you also can't help but want him and Adrien to end up together. It's so good it's hard to put into words that truly convey the true goodness of it all.Also: the first books are a weird little time capsule to early oughts. I went "you can't say that?!" more than once, and "how is that a big deal?" plenty of times. Part of that is that you wouldn't imagine that Jake from book 1 would ever be Jake from book 6 when you first listen to book 1, but he does earn his book 6 happy ending.

Even if Adrien is not my fave protagonist (he's just a touch too much of a doormat for me), the engaging storytelling, drama and mysteries suck you in and keep you hooked until the end. I liked the second book the most out of these three personally, and the narrator did an excellent job on all of them. Fully recommended.

A bit mixed feelings about these books. Or rather about the protagonists. But the little emotional masochist in me can’t wait to listen to the next book.

These books are not genre-romance, they do not have a happy ending, not even a happy for now ending. I did not know this going in and I don't remember when I was last feeling so low and depressed as I did after listening to this. I had to power through the next three books just to get the closure. But there's so so much heartwrenching hurt and angst I can't really say I can recommend these books for the romance.
