A dark enchantment blights the land in the award-winning Uprooted – a captivating fantasy inspired by fairy tales and steeped in Slavic folklore from Naomi Novik, author of the Scholomance trilogy and the Temeraire series.
'A great heroine, new takes on old myths and legends, and surprising twists and turns. A delight' – Cassandra Clare, author of The Mortal Instruments
Agnieszka loves her village, set deep in a peaceful valley. But the nearby enchanted forest casts a shadow over her home. Many have been lost to the Wood and none return unchanged. The villagers depend on an ageless wizard, the Dragon, to protect them from the forest's dark magic. However, his help comes at a terrible price. One young village woman must serve him for ten years, leaving all they love and value behind.
The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka fears her dearest friend Kasia will be picked next, for she's everything Agnieszka is not – beautiful, graceful and brave. Yet when the Dragon comes, it's not Kasia he takes . . .
Uprooted is a stunning romantic fantasy filled with unexpected twists, beautiful friendships and fierce battles against dark forces.

Hard to leave unfinished! Exiting from the start to the very end.

This has to be one of the best books. I like that the romance didn’t take too much of the book but was still a prominent part of the story. And the ending was very heartwarming.

An excellent novel, beutifully written and wise. Also, the remarkably good reader did this story justice and made it come alive.

A tale of journey. I did like it first, but it became boring in the middle part. Luckily got better for the end again. I didn't like the reader either. Her voice was too monotonic and it flattened the story.

I liked the atmospheric setting of the Wood and the village, the story was interesting to follow from place to place, but I was disappointed with the main pair of characters and how the main girl seemes to suffer from the "special snowflake" syndrome typical to a lot of YA-protagonists. Also, while I was glad the romance wasn't the focus of the story in any way, it was still left very underdeveloped along with any development arc for the main characters. The magic system was also kind of disappointing with seemingly all the power and no drawbacks, and the ease of which a complete beginner like the main character could just suddenly learn to wield a completely different system of magic like, well, "magic".
