A Progress To The Mines

Colonel William Byrd II (28 March 1674 - 26 August 1744) was a planter, slave-owner and author from Charles City County, Virginia. He is considered the founder of Richmond, Virginia.

His works are among the earliest of Virginia literature and his diaries are considered as classic documents.

This diary tells about the iron mines that Ex-Governor Spotswood opened.
