There he shelters in a great marble tomb bearing the name of a countess from Styria, a woman the locals say was a suicide and worse. Lightning strikes. Inside the tomb something stirs, and what happens on that frozen hillside brings him under the protection of a power far away in the Carpathians.

Published posthumously in 1914, Dracula's Guest is widely believed to be the deleted opening chapter of Dracula. It is a short, atmospheric masterpiece of vampire fiction and one of the most famous gothic horror stories ever written.
