The Overseers are a mysterious race of aliens that scattered humans on dozens of worlds throughout the galaxy. No one knows why they did it, and now a piece of their technology has been unearthed. With it, their secrets are laid bare.

Anna must travel to a small town in Tennessee to recover the device before its strange effects on the human mind drive the locals to violence. Meanwhile, Jack goes to Leyria to make contact with a professor who has studied the Overseers, and to keep the man alive long enough to get some answers.

If things weren't complicated enough, Wesley Pennfield has come back to Earth, seeking revenge on the people who took everything from him.
