#1 The second half of the book ranges more widely over various topics that together inform and set the context of the biblical model of discipleship. Chapters 7, 8, and 12 were preached in Worcester College, Oxford, during the last two years of my chaplaincy there.

#2 The first half of the book is an invitation to do some homework. It grew out of my reading of the Bible, and is intended to encourage hearers and readers to read it anew for themselves. The second half of the book follows the more conventional method of working from a short passage.
