The Prophet

A book that is number one on the New York Times bestseller list for several weeks may be forgotten a decade later. Popularity in a moment of history does not guarantee that a book will endure beyond its own time. The Prophet however, has proven time and again to quietly find its way into the hands of seekers, artists, leaders, lovers, and ordinary readers for over a century, and remains one of the best-selling books of poetry and spiritual literature in history. This is a book that has been translated into more than one hundred languages and sold millions of copies worldwide.

Born in 1883, Kahlil Gibran was a Lebanese-American poet, philosopher, artist, and mystic whose writings bridged East and West. Drawing upon the wisdom traditions of Christianity, Islam, Sufism, and universal spirituality, Gibran created a work that transcends religion and speaks directly to the human heart.

This book is a meditation on what it means to be human. Gibran reveals that joy and sorrow are inseparable companions, and that the deepest truths of life are not always found in certainty, but also in wonder. He unfolds a series of poetic reflections on love, marriage, children, friendship, giving, work, freedom, pain, beauty, religion, and death. Here is a book not just to be read and put away, but to be meditated upon, applied into life, and passed on from generation to generation.
