The Tree

Long ago, two sculptors lived in that villa, friends since boyhood and the finest artists in Greece. When the tyrant of Syracuse commissioned a statue of Tyche and promised the honour to whichever of them carved the greater work, their friendship was put to a test that only one of them survived. The olive tree grew from the grave of the other.
