The Thing That Feeds on Trauma

Stalking His Prey

Two explorers head beneath the Cornwall cliffs, expecting a quiet day exploring abandoned mine tunnels. But the deeper they go, the heavier the air becomes—until their gas detector slams to 100%, oxygen collapses, and a crushing pressure settles over them like the tunnels themselves are tightening. Then comes the sound. A harsh metal scrape, like chains dragged slowly across rock. Once… then again, closer. And beneath it, a steady, deliberate breathing that isn’t theirs. Being Hunted

Somewhere along the Pacific Crest Trail, a solo hiker found himself far from anyone—or so he thought. Out of the treeline stepped an old man: tall, wiry, with shock-white hair and a hollow stare. He asked, almost too softly, “Are you alone out here?”

The hiker lied, saying he was traveling with a group. But the man only smiled and began following, matching his every step as the path narrowed. Then came the stories—of bogs so deep they could swallow a person whole, of hikers who vanished without a sound. Finally, the stranger whispered, “This is the stretch where they all go quiet.”

The Stretch Where They Go Quiet

It started as an innocent mix-up — a delivery to the wrong house on a quiet summer afternoon. A 16-year-old living on the edge of a suburban town answered the door to find a man holding a pizza he hadn’t ordered. Harmless enough… until the same man came back weeks later with the same excuse: “They messed up the order again.”

It Seemed Harmless… Until It Wasn’t

In the fall of the 1970s, deep in rural Kansas, six children waited each night for their mother to return home from work. One cold October evening, they heard her familiar voice call out from the driveway—soft, tired, and unmistakably hers. Four of the youngest ran outside to help carry in the groceries, but when they reached the end of the drive, the road was empty. Their mother was nowhere in sight. The air turned colder.
