With the week-long crisis in Sudan showing no signs of a truce, India on Monday launched ‘Operation Kaveri’ to evacuate its nationals from the violence-hit African nation. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India’s ships and aircraft are set to bring the Indians back home. “Operation Kaveri gets underway to bring back our citizens stranded in Sudan. About 500 Indians have reached Port Sudan. More on their way,” Jaishankar tweeted. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had chaired a high-level meeting to look into the situation on Saturday. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement on Sunday that it has positioned two Indian Air Force C-130J on standby in Jeddah and the Indian Navy vessel INS Sumedha has reached Port Sudan. It said that the embassy is in touch with the Indians stuck in the African nation. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
