'Recursion takes mind-twisting premises and embeds them in a deeply emotional story about time and loss and grief and most of all, the glory of the human heart' – Gregg Hurwitz, international bestselling author of Orphan X.
A breathtaking exploration of memory and what it means to be human, Recursion is the follow-up novel to the smash-hit thriller, Dark Matter, by Blake Crouch.
What if someone could rewrite your entire life?
‘My son has been erased.’
Those are the last words the woman tells Barry Sutton before she leaps from the Manhattan rooftop.
Deeply unnerved, Barry begins to investigate her death only to learn that this wasn’t an isolated case. All across the country, people are waking up to lives different from the ones they fell asleep to. Are they suffering from False Memory Syndrome, a mysterious, new disease that afflicts people with vivid memories of a life they never lived? Or is something far more sinister behind the fracturing of reality all around him?
Miles away, neuroscientist Helena Smith is developing a technology that allows us to preserve our most intense memories and relive them. If she succeeds, anyone will be able to re-experience a first kiss or the birth of a child.
Barry’s search for the truth leads him on an impossible, astonishing journey as he discovers that Helena’s work has yielded a terrifying gift . . .
'A fantastic read' – Andy Weir, Number one New York Times bestselling author of The Martian.

Amazing book! Great concept. It slows down quite a bit in the second half, but still very good.Love how Blake Crouch writes like it's a movie. Makes it easy to imagine and listen too

So! I was promised a thriller, and this book delivered… tenfold! Now to be completely honest this story did remind me of other tales I have read/viewed before. (The ‘Year of Hell’ episodes of Star Trek Voyager particularly sprang to mind.)But this story has one original twist that makes it stand out from the temporal pack. So much so that I shouted: “what a good idea!” to my barren bedroom wall…Now on one hand I want to be generous and give it five stars. Because it left me more then satisfied… But I’m also a grumpy middle-aged person that reserves maximum score for those rare books that change me, and that stick with me for the rest of my grumpy sour life…So therefore I go looking for shortcomings. And luckily I find that the genre cliché characters let it down a bit.And yes let’s be honest here: it does lose steam a bit in the end.But what the am I complaining about?A thrilling, exciting, cerebral read… Get to it!4,5 star

Masterpiece! I found this book to be even stronger than Dark Matter. The switch in perspective halfway through the book is really quite brilliant. I'm still getting to grips with some of the wilder plot swings. Strongly recommended of you liked Dark Matter!

It was a good story but I found it to be complicated. A lot of scientific talk that was too much for my tired brain so at times I had a hard time following.
