Fyodor Dostoyevsky is a titanic figure among the world’s great authors, and The Brothers Karamazov is often hailed as his finest novel. A masterpiece on many levels, it transcends the boundaries of a gripping murder mystery to become a moving account of the battle between love and hate, faith and despair, compassion and cruelty, good and evil.

Absolutely epic. Take all the time it needs to savour this deserved classic. Every court novel after it seems to have borrowed from it. Beautiful elementary, conventional morality are set masterfully against a profoundly mystic spiritual backdrop which only another Slavic artist might match. Never, really, a moment outside current time. A gem I finally was brave enough to add to my library - it did take a couple of months in all to read but when the mood is suddenly right you won't want to stop listening. Onto The Double!
