Lots of tiresome lecturing (of the unmistakable college marxist stench), nonsensical, naive dychotomy in the realm of socioeconomic relations (how did Daron afford a hand copied and bound book given lack of any in-between strata is beyond me lmao), the world and characters are literal caricatures to the point of being insufferable... However it's still much better than Dickens, and occasional hinting at the magical mystery was enough to keep me interested - I'll even try the next part. Another positive aspect would be the mix of seeing the world through the eyes of a small child and an idealistic but experienced adult (and a good father, that's rare) constantly "refreshes" the reader preventing the fairly mundane and slow paced story from becoming stale, very clever indeed. I was surprised to get so enraptured by the kid's struggles to become a bookbinder, they reminded me to he humble and grateful for what I have, even if it wasn't too subtle. Book not being too heavy certainly helped
