"NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Pierce Brown’s relentlessly entertaining debut channels the excitement of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. “Red Rising ascends above a crowded dystopian field.”—USA Today Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music! “I live for the dream that my children will be born free,” she says. “That they will be what they like. That they will own the land their father gave them.” “I live for you,” I say sadly. Eo kisses my cheek. “Then you must live for more.” Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. Yet he toils willingly, trusting that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children. But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and lush wilds spread across the planet. Darrow—and Reds like him—are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class. Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for the dominant Gold caste, where the next generation of humanity’s overlords struggle for power. He will be forced to compete for his life and the very future of civilization against the best and most brutal of Society’s ruling class. There, he will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies... even if it means he has to become one of them to do so. Performed by Stewart Crank, John Kielty, Richard Rohan, Stephanie Németh-Parker, Jenna Sharpe, Kay Eluvian, Jon Vertullo, Ian Russell, Alejandro Ruiz, Andrew Colford, Bradley Foster Smith, Christopher Williams, Chris Stinson, Christopher Walker, Colleen Delany, Elizabeth Jernigan, Eric Messner, Ian Putnam, James Konicek, Joe Mallon, Joel David Santner, Julie-Ann Elliott, Karen Novak, Ken Jackson, Lucy Symons, Marni Penning, Martin Dickinson, Matthew Bassett, Matthew Pauli, Matthew Schleigh, Michael Glenn, Michael John Casey, Nanette Savard, Nazia Chaudhry, Nora Achrati, Shanta Parasuraman, Stephone Walker, Dylan Lynch, Yasmin Tuazon and Andy Clemence."

A bit of Gladiator, Braveheart and the Hunger Games... But at the same time so much different from them. Bit predictable, following the well known patterns, and unpredictable at the same time. It proves once again that grass that seems greener on the other side of the fence greener is not, and that not everything that's golden really shines. It's also superbly performed, especially by Stewart Crank, whom I haven't known before and he is just perfect as Darrow, and by Jon Vertullo, always absolutely nailing whatever part he gets - I could listen to him all the time. However not all the parts were cast right, I'm afraid. Some man voices are too mature and simply not convincing as 17-year olds. Pity. Such a great book should do with more care if it comes to the casting. But still I simply love it. And the music here is stunning.

Simply fantastic how the GraphicAudio can adapt a book in to a "movie in your mind" !

Finished at the second try. After initially discarding this book as too predictable and too much like other YA books, I picked it up again, in the mood for somethig simple but entertaining. And Red Rising is exactly that. I really liked the Hunger Games-esque part of the book.Plus, Graphic Audio does a great job here and the narrator is a really good fit!
