#2 Parents should remember how difficult the teen years can be and connect with their teens, as that will help them empathize with them.

#3 Parents want to be remembered by their kids as someone who stuck with them, helped them make sense of the world, and learned from the consequences of their actions.

#4 Reflect back on your own childhood and see how you handled conflict with your parents. You may have been surly and angry, or you may have sneakily done what you wanted behind their backs. Either way, you probably didn't enjoy the alienation.
