Twenty-five-year-old Dean Hernandez isn't a superhero. He's a scientist, one who happens to be in a relationship with a superhero who is dying of a genetic disease which only afflicts superhumans.

To save his superhero girlfriend, Dean splices mice with superhuman DNA to give them superpowers. Dean hopes to study the resulting 'supermice' to design a cure for his girlfriend's condition and save her life.

Disaster strikes when the mad scientist supervillain known as Hybrid steals the supermice right under Dean's nose, with plans to use them as the basis of an army of super beasts to take over the world. Even worse, the government brands Dean an accomplice to Hybrid on specious evidence, forcing Dean to go on the run to avoid getting arrested.

Now Dean must team up with the gruff veteran superhero Arachnid to clear his name, save the supermice, and stop Hybrid. And he only has a week to do it before the Supermice Project is shut down and all of Dean's hopes of saving his girlfriend are destroyed.

At the start of her second year at the Academy, Ashley 'Crafter' Jason finds the whole school embroiled in the first-ever Academy Intraschool Competition, where six of the Academy's best students from each Team are pitted against one another in a year-long series of contests. Surprisingly, Ashley ends up voted to represent her Team, putting her at odds with her cocky first-year teleporter cousin Theo and straining her relationship with her best friend, Courtney.

Winning the Competition is enough pressure by itself, but Ashley must also deal with the vicious Guardians of Humanity, an anti-super terrorist group whose leader, the lethal Overkill, has set his eyes on the Academy in general and Ashley in particular. The Guardians seek to destroy the Academy and their plans appear to involve the mysterious Lost Hero, Omega Man, who has been missing for over a decade.

Now Ashley must not only win the Competition for her Team, but stop Overkill and the Guardians from enacting their deadly plan to destroy the Academy. After the events of the last book, eighteen-year-old Ashley 'Crafter' Jason begins attending the International Superbian Institute for Superhuman Training to complete her third year o schooling. Although the culture shock of visiting a country populated almost entirely by supers is tough, Ashley finds solace in her friend, Barrett Marcus, causing their relationship to deepen in pleasant ways Ashley did not expect.

But life isn't all romance and boys. The kind yet charming President Franklin 'Dragon King' Marcus of Superbia expresses an interest in helping Ashley, although his true intentions for her and the world are far from benevolent. Meanwhile, a rebellion against the ruling super class of Superbia is brewing among the country's oppressed normals, who have hatched a plot to assassinate President Marcus and need Ashley's help to pull it off.

All Ashley wants to do is complete her third year of schooling and go home. But when President Marcus offers her the cure for her incurable genetic disease, can she possibly say no? Or will she join the burgeoning revolution against his rule and find herself in his crosshairs?

The villainous Overkill emerges from the shadows to demonstrate a deadly biological weapon that threatens the lives of all supers. At the same time, the Dragon King of Superbia plots to not merely invade the United States, but kill Ashley for daring to oppose his will. And the supervillain terrorist, Parasite, has returned and is ready to end his feud with Ashley permanently.

None of those threats, however, are as dangerous to Ashley as her own genetic disease, which she discovers is on track to kill her before she graduates, thus leaving Ashley with two choices:
