#1 The world is not yet ready for parents to raise gender-neutral kids. While I admire the spirit of the idea, I don’t think it’s possible or desirable. Kids crave a sense of self, and gender identity is an important part of this understanding of self.

#2 The moment I felt I’d crossed into manhood was when I drove my family home from the hospital after the birth of my son. I was terrified, but I had to get them home.

#3 I had the strange feeling that the world was different places: inside these walls and out. Outside, everything continued as it always had. Inside, everything was different. I loved my baby boy and began thinking of him as my own child.
