#1 I was the navigator on the plane, and I used the Navigator’s table to plot our location using charts, radar images, and sometimes star sightings. I had spent considerable time in flight school learning the intricacies of celestial navigation.

#2 I was assigned to the tail gun position on many flights, where I would sit and wait for enemy fighters or anti-aircraft fire. I would usually just slam the hatch shut when something went wrong, without even thinking.
