I have been meaning to read this series for as long as I knew about it, but I'm glad I started with it now. I was not disappointed. .The world-building in this novel is top-notch, with each of the four parallel Londons (Red, Grey, White, and Black) being distinct and well-realized..The characters are well-developed, especially the two main characters, Kell and Lila, who are both likable and relatable in their own way..At first, I was surprised that I didn't immediately take a liking towards Lila's character as much as I did Kell's, but eventually, she really grew on me. .Schwab does an excellent job of developing her characters over the course of the book, and by the end, I found myself rooting for her just as much as I was for Kell..One thing I couldn't help but notice was the similarities between Kell's coat with that of "Greatcoat". This added an extra layer of familiarity to the story, making me feel as though I had stumbled upon an old friend.
