    Fyrirsjáanleg

Allan writes a lot of series and at a prodigious pace. Whether the speed or the sheer volume of what he's written is to blame, I feel this series fails to both live up to his better works, as well as differentiate itself from the character development of his previous protagonists. The overall story is new ground for Allan, but rings familiar to many other sci fi worlds other creators have already made, in the insurgency and 'war for the planet' motifs. The ending divergence was surprising, especially since Allan seems to have set the groundwork for at least 4 successive books with hints of upcoming hurdles, seemingly hinting at a 'mysterious stranger' kind of ongoing story (new and welcome ground), but the protagonist feels like carbon copy sci-fi action protagonist with little to be interested in. While this isn't much of a dealbreaker in a protagonist, if the novel is to lean so heavily on him as to have him be the only fixture, then he needs to be much more interesting.
