The Book That Wouldn’t Burn

Every time I start a Mark Lawerence trilogy I’m sure I won’t ever be able to love it as much as the one before, and everytime he proves me wrong. His own understanding of science, history, psychology and unbelievable storytelling make his books a feast for the mind. Highly, highly recommend this book! It takes a little effort to follow the story at the start but it comes together beautifully and only gets better from there

Beginning was fun and exciting, however the further I went into the story the more vague and confusing it became.

It started very slow and I didn’t know if I was going to like the story. But the story developed very nice and good. 1/3 in and I was hooked. I very much liked listening to this book

Er werd veel verteld zonder het te laten zien. Ik vond het moeilijk te volgen en moest steeds een stukje terug om het te begrijpen. Toch was ik positief verrast door de plottwist. Maar de quotes aan het begin van elk hoofdstuk voegden niets toe en waren nogal irritant.

This is a really amazing book. On so many levels. It had me after 5 minutes. All the ‘quotes’… Did the writer live in the library himself? ;-) I’m not a native English speaker so I’m sorry for the level of this comment. I just want to say: read it or listen to it and think deeply about all you’re gonna learn. It touched me deeply.

What can I say: overall this is a nice book.There was some great images here, and the endless eternal library is a nice idea (BUT an un-original, well trodden one…) Oddly enough the book did remind me most of the old point & click adventure games I used to play. You know the ones: where everything you encounter can be used somewhere else, before you can progress in the story. This book is exactly the same: every object is a part of the puzzle and nothing is just there.It’s very reminiscent of the Maze Runner..But it has a twist here that is a nice touch, and that uplifts the score to four stars..Not sure if I need to read on…
