The Foundation series is Isaac Asimov’s iconic masterpiece. Unfolding against the backdrop of a crumbling Galactic Empire, the story of Hari Seldon’s two Foundations is a lasting testament to an extraordinary imagination, one that shaped science fiction as we know it today.
The Galactic Empire has prospered for twelve thousand years. Nobody suspects that the heart of the thriving Empire is rotten, until psychohistorian Hari Seldon uses his new science to foresee its terrible fate.
Exiled to the desolate planet Terminus, Seldon establishes a colony of the greatest minds in the Empire, a Foundation which holds the key to changing the fate of the galaxy.
However, the death throes of the Empire breed hostile new enemies, and the young Foundation’s fate will be threatened first.

Väldigt mycket män i handlingen.

Written in the 1940s and it must have been one of Asimov's first books but it is incredibly dated and surprising in its lack of vision in terms of how the future pans out.12000 years in the future apparently women are still housewives, messages are sent on paper (if teleported) and the men sit around speaking like officers in WW1 constantly smoking cigars 🤷♂️

Obviously a (sort of?) must read for the true SFist. But, like someone here said, it can strike me as a surprisingly narrow vision at times, despite the galaxy-spanning scope… and then again not really. There are a lot of engaging concepts he was the father of were introduced here.. and like that same someone said, written in the 1940s so I can appreciate it for the vision it does contain. Also, it is important as a foundational ;) work for the entire genre… what is almost more frustrating is the fact that civilisation in the shape of empire is assumed to be a good we should strive to protect in the first place.
