one of the best audiobook narrations i've ever heard (if not THE best), i needed to remind myself that the narrator isn't actually the main character! i liked the story too, it's a very unique concept. it took me a while to get into it since i'm not really into historical fiction (i read it for the horror aspects) but eventually it really gripped me.

The pacing is ridiculously slow. It just goes on and on without anything happening.

The narration was delightful. Had some difficulty adjusting to AAVE as a non-native English speaker but that also added to the book's charm. Just a trigger warning, some of the graphic descriptions may be disturbing for some but since it is a horror book it is to be expected. And for those who don't mind their execution was very well done and the book itself is beautifully written.
