ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK

Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver tells the story of two families living in the same dilapidated house in Vineland, New Jersey, but in different centuries. In the present day, Willa and her family navigate modern challenges while facing the potential collapse of their home. Simultaneously, the narrative shifts to the nineteenth century, where science teacher Thatcher Greenwood clashes with the town's rigid beliefs as he tries to introduce evolutionary ideas, finding an intellectual companion in the botanist Mary Treat. The novel explores themes of survival in precarious times, the struggle between scientific progress and entrenched dogma, and the search for shelter and stability in both personal and societal landscapes.
