#1 Selena and I had always been friendly around each other, but professional. I had joined her band a year before, and we had traveled to Mexico together. I had noticed that Selena was lively and outgoing, while I was quiet and observant.

#2 I began to notice Selena’s physical presence, her body tempting me even though she always wore cover-ups over her bikini. I tried not to stare at her, but I did anyway, watching her out of the corner of my eye when I thought she wasn’t looking.

#3 I was determined to ignore everything that had happened with Selena on the plane home from Acapulco. I was going to keep playing guitar in Tejano band fronted by another young singer, Shelly Lares.

#4 I was new to the Tejano world, and I often felt like an imposter. I was a rock guitarist who had never played Tejano music before, but I knew right away that Selena y Los Dinos were rising to the top.
