#3 Carl hired the arrogant boy to sail for him the next day. He was a real sailor, but his friends were not. They would embarrass him in front of his fancy friends.

#4 Carl took pleasure in blinding the boy with the flare of a readily offered match. He guided the boy carefully along the cobbles, steering him away from any prying eyes or distractions. The Akista would set sail as Carl had said in the bar. There was no lie in that.
