The subtle touch of Magical Realism in this one, together with slow and drawn out narration, makes this a perfect read for a gloomy rainy evening.
A unique and wonderfully creepy tale that is sure to delight Murakami fans.
'All I did was go to the library to borrow some books'.
On his way home from school, the young narrator of The Strange Library finds himself wondering how taxes were collected in the Ottoman Empire. He pops into the local library to see if it has a book on the subject. This is his first mistake.
Led to a special 'reading room' in a maze under the library by a strange old man, he finds himself imprisoned with only a sheep man, who makes excellent donuts, and a girl, who can talk with her hands, for company. His mother will be worrying why he hasn't returned in time for dinner and the old man seems to have an appetite for eating small boy's brains. How will he escape?
'The best novelist on the planet' Observer
Murakami is like a magician who explains what he's doing as he performs the trick and still makes you believe he has supernatural powers . . . But while anyone can tell a story that resembles a dream, it's the rare artist, like this one, who can make us feel that we are dreaming it ourselves ? New York Times Book Review
A dark and memorable fairytale about the lingering influence of childhood fears and the isolation of adulthood -- Catherine Kelly ? Cherwell Newspaper

Brilliant and amazing one. This is my third book for HM and this one is really different. Is that library the life which we are in? The system which we go in by ourselves? Is the sheepman the religion? The girl is the beautiful moments which we don't know if we are really living it or we are dreaming about it? Is that library the life system which we go in and find that we are locked into it and want to run away from it? Just some thoughts came into my mind when i was listening to this wonderful book.

The story was quite good to keep you glued to it till the end but I was somewhat disappointed with the end of it.

Though it was my first murakami book but I have to admit that this book was amazing and will engage you whole the time and will leave you with huge impact even after reading it.

This's a usual weird Murakmian novel. A freaky ideal he applies brilliantly. What happens when our most loving habit -or thing in general- turns to be one of the most horrifying things in the world? what if we over took it and locked ourselves in it?
