विचिन्त्य उपदेष्टव्यम्

महावीरः नाम नरपतिः गान्धारदेशं पालयति स्म । विवेकिभिः उच्यते - ‘कालम् अवेक्ष्य एव नृपजनान् हितम् अहितं वा उपदेष्टव्यम् । अन्यथा उपदेष्टॄणाम् एव अपायः सम्भवेत्' इति । तत् सत्यम् इति अनया कथया ज्ञायते । को वा नृपम् उपदिष्टवान् ? उपदेशानन्तरं किं प्राचलत् इत्यादयः विषयाः अस्यां कुतूहलकारिकथायां विद्यन्ते । (“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”) King Mahavir ruled the land of Gandhara. The wise say, "A king should only be advised at the right time, or it may lead to harm for the advisors themselves." This is indeed true, as the story reveals. Who gave this advice to the king?
