'Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show.'

A classic coming-of-age narrative and part-autobiographical, David Copperfield details one man's extraordinary life and adventures in Victorian England.

Termed by Dickens as his 'favourite child', this novel was a turning point in Dickens's career, considered one of his more mature works. The eponymous David Copperfield, born in rural Suffolk six months after his father passes away, undergoes a difficult childhood. His mother remarries a stern man who beats him and tyrannises his life. After his mother's untimely death, he runs away to seek his eccentric but generous Aunt, who gladly takes him in. What follows is a life lived to the full; both comic, tragic and everything in between. Including profound reflections on grief, perseverance and kindness, David Copperfield remains one of Dickens's most beloved novels. This audiobook is skilfully read by David Rintoul. Charles Dickens (1812 – 1870) was an English writer and social critic. He is regarded by many as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era. His works enjoyed unprecedented popularity during his lifetime and, by the twentieth century, critics and scholars had recognized him as a literary genius. His novels and short stories are widely read, performed and adapted today.
