From the best-selling author of Americanah and We Should All Be Feminists comes a powerful new statement about feminism today – written as a letter to a friend.
I have some suggestions for how to raise Chizalum. But remember that you might do all the things I suggest, and she will still turn out to be different from what you hoped, because sometimes life just does its thing. What matters is that you try.
In We Should All be Feminists, her eloquently argued and much admired essay of 2014, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie proposed that if we want a fairer world we need to raise our sons and daughters differently. Here, in this remarkable new book, Adichie replies by letter to a friend’s request for help on how to bring up her newborn baby girl as a feminist. With its fifteen pieces of practical advice it goes right to the heart of sexual politics in the twenty-first century.

Finished listening to ‘Dear Ijeawele, A feminist manifesto in fifteen suggestions’ by one of the most brilliant, powerful and beautiful feminist writer of our times @chimamanda_adichie on @storytel.in. Miss Chimanda has a strong writing sense, so much so that during the whole one hour of reading this book, I felt a strong sense of emotion hitting me hard. Here, she is writing a letter to her friend who wants to raise her daughter as a feminist and bravo! What a job 💕 As The fiesty author puts it, Not all men are misogynistic, just like not all are feminists! Girls, we are here to support each other. Let’s grow above and beyond the pettiness of competition and jealousy. Let’s teach our girls not to take anyone’s shit and stand on their own feet and let’s start by following this ourselves :) We are women, we are equal... to me. to animals and to every living being. We are not superior beings, nor do we hate men, we just want to celebrate equality in an unequal world :) Rated: 5/5

This book has all the ideas I wish I was taught as a child. It is short and explained succinctly. And because it is a direct letter to a friend, the format is engaging throughout.
