ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK

My Policeman by Bethan Roberts tells the story of a complex love triangle set in 1950s Brighton. The novel explores the lives of Marion, a schoolteacher; Tom, a policeman; and Patrick, a museum curator. Marion is smitten with Tom and marries him, but Tom is also in love with Patrick, a relationship he must hide due to the legal and social restrictions of the time. The narrative examines the consequences of societal homophobia and the difficulties the characters face in expressing their true desires. It details the breakdown of Marion's marriage, and the secret relationship between Tom and Patrick, as well as the consequences of these relationships on their lives. The book delves into themes of forbidden love, jealousy, and the destructive nature of silence and secrets.
