General Analysis

ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK

Son by Lois Lowry tells the story of Claire, a young woman in a seemingly utopian society who is selected to be a Birthmother. After she gives birth, her baby, referred to as Product number Thirty-six, is taken from her, and she is reassigned to the Fish Hatchery. However, she forms an attachment to her child and experiences a strong sense of loss. Driven by a mother’s love, Claire embarks on a quest to find her son, facing many obstacles along the way. The novel explores themes of love, sacrifice, identity, and the struggle between good and evil, focusing on both Claire's and her son Gabe's journey. It is a story about the power of human connection and the importance of understanding one's past.
