ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK

"The Shining," by Stephen King, tells the story of Jack Torrance, a struggling writer and recovering alcoholic, who takes a job as the winter caretaker at the remote Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. He brings his wife, Wendy, and their young son, Danny, with him. The hotel, with its dark history and isolation, begins to exert a malevolent influence over Jack. As the family becomes snowbound, Jack's sanity deteriorates, and he becomes increasingly violent. Danny, who possesses psychic abilities referred to as the “shining”, senses the evil presence in the hotel. The story explores themes of isolation, the corruption of power, and the battle between good and evil, as the family fights for survival against both supernatural forces and Jack's growing madness. The Overlook itself is a character, with a history of violence and despair that fuels the events of the novel.
