cats and books cure my depression so this was a very nice read
The Cat Who Saved Books is a heart-warming story about finding courage, caring for others – and the tremendous power of books.
Grandpa used to say it all the time: 'books have tremendous power'. But what is that power really?
Natsuki Books was a tiny second-hand bookshop on the edge of town. Inside, towering shelves reached the ceiling, every one crammed full of wonderful books. Rintaro Natsuki loved this space that his grandfather had created. He spent many happy hours there, reading whatever he liked. It was the perfect refuge for a boy who tended to be something of a recluse.
After the death of his grandfather, Rintaro is devastated and alone. It seems he will have to close the shop. Then, a talking tabby cat called Tiger appears and asks Rintaro for help. The cat needs a book lover to join him on a mission. This odd couple will go on three magical adventures to save books from people who have imprisoned, mistreated and betrayed them. Finally, there is one last rescue that Rintaro must attempt alone . . .
Sosuke Natsukawa's international bestseller, translated from Japanese by Louise Heal Kawai, is a story for those for whom books are so much more than words on paper.

It's a good audiobook for a cozy/lazy day. I listened to it while knitting and drinking tea. The highschooler who meets a talking cat feels kind of like an anime trope, but I love that trope to bits so it's perfect. I think the author tried to write a deep book that emphasizes the importance of literature, classics and finding your way in life. Maybe tried a tiny bit too hard? In places it feels stereotypey and holier-than-thou. But that didn't keep me from enjoying it. For some reason it reminded me of 'Sophie's World' from the 90's, even though I barely remember that one.

Overall, there is no surprise here. As a book lover myself, i enjoyed the fantasy in the story itself. The takeaway for me is that sometimes you pick up a book, and after a chapter or two, you will start to decide if you should continue or DNF (do not finish). However, just like a life learning experience, you learn something when you are in an uncomfortable zone.Well, the protagonist suggested that we may learn something as you tend to choose books you are familiar with.Hmm . This is something new. Do you agree?

This book should really be classified as a children's book, or at the most young adult. I think it's supposed to be deep, but it's pretty basic for anyone who's used to reading. It's also kind of preachy, and ableist in that it suggests the only proper way to read books are printed versions. The characters, especially the female ones, are flat and uninspiring, and too much stereotypes of their gender. The narrator is OK, but the voice of two of the opponents are so grating it started to give me a headache. Can comfortably be listened to at at least 1,3x speed.

Een mooi boek, dat op een creatieve fantasierijke manier de liefde en het belang van boeken weer te vertellen. Het verhaal is officieel japans maar dit is allemaal zeer netjes vertaald in het engels.

This was a cosy tea time story about books, bookshops and the magical world behind it. I felt so happy and passionate while I was reading this book. The love and passion for books, displayed by the protagonist is so inspiring and relatable. After reading this book, I felt even more in love with books and the world it contains in them. Basically if you have read or do read this book, it will make you want to read more

Intressant premiss, men tyvärr lite för tjatig och förutsägbar. Berättelsen hade lämpat sig bättre som ett lättsamt äventyrsspel där varje uppdrag är en ny bana.
