Short stories

Under the Pyramids, the King of Illusion is about to meet the King of Terrors.

This unique and sensational tale of adventure and cosmic dread is narrated in the first person by the most famous magician and escape artist of the age: Harry Houdini.

While on a publicity tour in Egypt, Houdini is invited by a dubious local guide to a private, unauthorized archaeological excavation beneath the Great Sphinx of Giza. Skeptical but intrigued, Houdini agrees. He soon finds himself separated from his guide and plunges through a treacherous shaft, landing deep within the uncharted, suffocating darkness beneath the ancient monument.

Trapped in a labyrinth of tunnels and crypts, Houdini's legendary composure begins to fracture. He discovers that the architecture he is navigating is far older than the Pharaohs, built by creatures whose existence is incompatible with human history. As he frantically searches for an exit, he encounters horrors that defy his rational mind: vast, monstrous shapes moving in the dark, and finally, the colossal, inhuman entities that have been sleeping beneath the sands for millennia.

Imprisoned with the Pharaohs (also published as "Under the Pyramids") was ghostwritten by H. P. Lovecraft for Harry Houdini in 1924, merging the magician's flair for the dramatic with Lovecraft's unique brand of cosmic terror. It is a thrilling blend of pulp adventure and the profound, mind-shattering horror of the Cthulhu Mythos, suggesting that even the greatest escapist is no match for the true, ancient evils of the world.

Can even the Master of Mystery escape the architecture of the void?
