#2 I would like to thank the following people for their help in preparing Suhaili for the voyage: David Waterhouse, George Greenfield, George Christian, Tony Dowds, Mike Christiansen, Richard Carpenter, Ken Parker, Bruce Maxwell, and the Marconi Marine staff.

#3 I was thinking about the feasibility of sailing around the world nonstop when my father mentioned that Tabarly was building a trimaran. I realized that someone would eventually attempt this, and I was hooked.

#4 I was born in England in 1939. I lost my first boat when I was four, but built a 10-foot canoe in my grandparents’ attic when I was fourteen and attending Berkhamsted School as a day boy. I took her to Selsey in Sussex for the summer holidays, and she was seaworthy.
