Between Sunset and Dusk

Her knowledge of a series of car fires has Doctor Trent Henson leaving the safety of her best friend’s car and stepping out into the dark deserted streets of the metropolis night. An established psychologist and life coach, and an expert in crisis intervention, she has heard it all and seen it all. Been inside some of the unhealthiest minds. Her oath to herself has always been to take the work seriously but never take it home. Events of tonight will hit home and change everything. She stumbles onto the scene of an apparent carjacking, witnesses a murder and becomes a victim herself when, surprised by Trent’s sudden appearance, the carjacker turns his gun on her. Now there is a temporary crack in the armor of her insulated world, forcing her to seek cover in protective custody.

Detective Tomás Langley is off duty, out of his district, and on his way home when he takes the call of shots fired that will forever change his life. He arrives on the scene to find a woman dead and another slipping in and out of consciousness. Nothing is as it seems. He soon discovers that what Dr. Trent Henson knows makes her a loose end to one of the most powerful men in the city - a loose end that must be dealt with. In a police department knee deep in corruption, there are only a handful of people he can trust. What begins as a moment of offering comfort quickly turns into a need to protect. It was not his district. It was not his case. But after holding her hand, he would not be leaving her side. He had taken an oath to protect and serve. As irrational as it was, he knew he would protect her with his life.
