Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he's pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he's never met.
Incredibly funny and poignant, this twenty-first-century coming-of-age, coming out story—wrapped in a geek romance—is a knockout of a debut novel by Becky Albertalli.
Plus don't miss Yes No Maybe So, Becky Albertalli's and Aisha Saeed's heartwarming and hilarious new novel, coming in 2020!

LSimon is amazing. His friends are too. He is harboring a secret from everyone except Blue. The catch is that he has never seen Blue or listened to his voice. He does not even know his real name. All he knows is that Blue goes to the same school as he does and they communicate through emails. Simon deserved the chance to come out to his family and friends on his own accord. This is taken from him by a very self-conscious Martin who finds out and blackmails Simon to help him get a date with his friend, Abby. What transpires is Simon being outed, hurting his friends in the process, and eventually meeting Blue. I know I cannot do justice to the all the emotions that the authors brews through her writing but lets just say that this is unputdownable and a must-read. I finished it while I made butter chicken (had to plug this in here) and immediately went to re-reading Leah.

Another predictable story involving gay teenagers, raging hormones, love, lust, friendship and unnecessary, overtly complicated drama.
