A TIMELESS CLASSIC OF SPIRITUAL LITERATURE

Interior Castle, written in the 16th century, is a book that was inspired by a mystical vision that came upon the revered St. Teresa of Avila, one of the most gifted and beloved religious figures in history. It has continued to inspire and guide readers for generations as it explores the journey of the soul towards a union with God.

St. Teresa sees the soul as a magnificent castle with bright, spacious, rooms, or mansions, each of which leads deeper into the castle, finally reaching the seat of the King who dwells in the seventh mansion. As she describes each of the seven rooms, she urges us forward to love and serve the Divine Majesty, imparting her conviction that the progress of our soul toward God through prayer is worth more than all the treasures on earth. Offering practical advice regarding the early struggles we will face and the temptations to turn back which beset beginners, she warns us against giving all of our attention to the outer wall of the castle, the body, ignoring the beauty of the soul within.

This deeply personal and insightful text offers guidance and encouragement to those seeking to deepen their relationship with God. Its vivid imagery and profound wisdom remains relevant and inspiring to readers of all ages and backgrounds. Opening a window into the mysteries of the spiritual life, it discusses the beauty and dignity of our souls and invites us to embark on our own journey of discovery and growth in order to find the path to a deeper and more meaningful connection with the divine.
