The Time Machine is one of the foundational works of science fiction and one of H. G. Wells's most influential novels. The story follows an unnamed Time Traveller who builds a machine capable of moving through time and journeys far into the future, where he discovers a strange world divided between the gentle Eloi and the mysterious, subterranean Morlocks. What begins as an adventure of scientific imagination becomes a dark reflection on progress, class, evolution, civilization, and the possible fate of humanity. Through its vision of the distant future, the novel questions whether human development always leads upward, or whether comfort, inequality, and decay may lead society toward something far more disturbing.
