1965 च्या 2 ऑक्टोबरपासून तीन आठवडे मी भारत-पाक युद्ध आघाडीवर वार्ताहर म्हणून गेलो होतो. त्यावेळी पंजाब व जम्मू-काश्मीरमध्ये आणि युद्ध आघाडीवरील विभागात फिरताना जे पाहिले,ते अनुभव लिहून ठेवावे असे ठरवले. त्या काळाचा आमच्या सर्वांच्या मनावर जो संस्कार घडला, तो कधी पुसला जाणार नाही. त्यामुळे हे निवेदन प्रसिद्ध करावेसे वाटले. शिवाय हेही नम्रपणाने सांगावेसे वाटते की, मी केवळ वृत्तपत्रीय निवेदन लिहिलेले नाही.साहित्याचा विद्यार्थी असल्यामुळे तत्कालिकाचे अवलोकन करताना मानवी मनाच्या अक्षय भावना दर्शवणारे क्षण टिपण्याचा प्रयत्न येथे केला आहे. अनेक व्यक्ती, दृश्ये, घटना आणि संभाषणे अविस्मरणीय वाटली. मनाला लुब्ध करणाऱ्या या गोष्टी वाचकांना सांगाव्या, हाच या निवेदनाचा हेतू आहे.

Three weeks from October 2, 1965 I went to the Indo-Pak war front as a correspondent. What I saw while traveling in Punjab and Jammu-Kashmir and in the war front section, Decided to write down that experience. The memory of that time will never be erased. Therefore, it was felt that this statement should be published. Also, I would like to humbly say that I have not written a press statement only. Being a student of literature, an attempt has been made here to capture the moments that show the inexhaustible emotions of the human mind while observing the present. Many persons, scenes, events and conversations seemed unforgettable. The purpose of this statement is to tell the readers these mind-blowing things.
