या पुस्तकातील लेखनाचे स्वरूप असे आहे की, वाचकांनी कोणतेही पान उघडावे आणि त्या-त्या व्यक्तीविषयीची आठवण वाचावी. पुस्तक सलग वाचले तरी काही हरकत नाही आणि असे मधूनच कोणतेही पान उघडून वाचले तरीही वाचनाच्या आनंदात काहीच फरक पडत नाही. वाचकांच्या सोयीसाठी भारतातील विद्वान (३३), आशियायी विद्वान (२०) व पाश्चात्त्य विद्वान (२२) असे तीन विभाग केले आहेत. पण पुस्तकात क्रमवारी लावताना मात्र तसा काहीही विचार केलेला नाही. कारण या आठवणी इतक्या विविध प्रकारच्या आहेत की, त्या सर्व काहीएक सूत्रात पकडता येणे अवघड आहे. विद्वान व्यक्तींच्या विक्षिप्तपणाचे किंवा वैशिष्ट्यपूर्ण वर्तनाचे हे प्रसंग वाचल्याने त्या-त्या विद्वानांविषयी असलेले गूढ कमी होईल; या विद्वान व्यक्तीसुद्धा मानवी भाव-भावना, इच्छा-आकांक्षा असलेल्याच आहेत हे प्रकर्षाने जाणवेल आणि असे असूनही त्यांना ज्ञानाच्या क्षेत्रात भरीव योगदान देता आले याची जाणीव होऊन आपल्या मनातील या विद्वानांविषयीचा आदर निश्चितपणे वाढेल ! The format of writing in this book is free floating. Readers can open any page and read memories about different scholars. Whether they read the book from the beginning to the end, or randomly by choosing any page, there is no difference in the joy of reading. For the convenience of readers, three sections have been made: Indian scholars (33), Asian scholars (20), and Western scholars (22). However, while arranging the articles, no strict thematic rules are followed. These memories are so diverse that it is difficult to bunch them all in one thread. When you read about the quirks and whims of the scholars, the awe lessens. It becomes easier to picture them as humans. And the respects grows when you realise that despite all the humane feelings and flaws, their intellectual contributions are absolutely great!
