There are some books which you like but you can't explain why. Things in Jars by Jess Kid was one of those for me.This book is a Gothic mystery based in Victorian London. An extraordinary detective Bridie Devine tries to solve the kidnapping of a secret daughter (with supernatural powers) of Sir Edmund Berwick. Bridie is accompanied by a tattoo covered ghost and a seven foot tall housemaid. We have supernatural elements, dark collectors, wicked surgeons, London underworld and elements of macabre written in a brilliant style. This book is for lovers of Gothic Mystery, Victorian London, female detectives, folklore and fairytale elements.
