आदरणीय लिओ टॉलस्टॉय, सादर प्रणाम,

मला आपला सहवास लाभला असता, आपणाशी बोलायला मिळाले असते, तर ते माझे परमभाग्य झाले असते, परंतु आपले निधन झाल्यानंतर माझा जन्म झाला, त्यामुळे ते शक्य झाले नाही. असे असले तरी आपले व्यक्तिमत्त्व आणि विचार स्थलकालातीत आहेत; त्यामुळे आपण आज हयात नसलात तरी माझ्यासारख्या साधकाला आपणापासून प्रकाश मिळतो आणि चैतन्यही लाभते. त्यामुळेच मी आपणाशी पत्रव्यवहार करणार आहे. आपणास जगातून अनेकजण पत्रं लिहीत असत आणि आपण सर्व पत्रांची दखल घेऊन, बऱ्याच पत्रांना उत्तरे लिहीत होतात. हे माहीत असल्यामुळेच मी आपणास काही पत्रं लिहिणार आहे. आपल्या उदात्त जीवनाशी माझा जो भावबंध आहे, त्यामुळेच मला हे करावेसे वाटते. या पत्रांमुळे हा भावबंध अधिक दृढ होईल आणि माझ्या जीवनाच्या या संध्यासमयी तो मला मोठा आधार वाटेल.
