वाचावे कसे हे शिकवण्यासाठी "नवी क्षितिजे" हे त्रैमासिक दीर्घकाळ चालवणाऱ्या आणि थोडेच पण विशेष महत्वाचे गंभीर वैचारिक लेखन करणाऱ्या विश्वास पाटील यांनी लिहिलेले "झुंडीचे मानसशास्त्र" हे पुस्तक दोन वेगवेगळ्या पुस्तकांवर आधारित आहे. त्या दोन पुस्तकांचे लेखक वेगवेगळ्या कालखंडातील, वेगवेगळ्या देशांतील आणि वेगवेगळया भाषांतील आहेत. त्यातील पहिले पुस्तक आहे "द क्राउड", ल बाँ यांनी लिहिलेले हे पुस्तक मूळ फ्रेंच भाषेतील असून त्याचा इंग्रजी अनुवाद 1896 मध्ये प्रसिद्ध झाला. दुसरे पुस्तक आहे "द ट्रू बिलिव्हर", एरिक हॉपर या अमेरिकन लेखकाने 1951 मध्ये हे इंग्रजी पुस्तक लिहिले आहे. विश्वास पाटील यांनी ती दोन पुस्तके अनुक्रमे "झुंडी" आणि "सच्चा अनुयायी" या स्वरूपात सुबोध मराठीत आणली, आणि झुंडीचे मानसशास्त्र हे एकसंध पुस्तक तयार केले. हे दोन्ही भाग परस्परांना पुरक आहेत, एवढेच नव्हे तर परस्परांचा आशय व विषय पुढे घेऊन जाणारे आहेत. 1978 मध्ये या पुस्तकाची पहिली आवृत्ती जनपथ प्रकाशन, मुंबई यांच्याकडून आली आणि नवी आवृत्ती साधना प्रकाशनाकडून 2020 मध्ये आली. चार दशकांनंतरही हे पुस्तक अधिकाधिक प्रस्तुत ठरते आहे. Vishwas Patil was an editor of Navi Kshitije, a quarterly magazine on serious reading, and also has a few but very important critical writings in his name. He wrote a book Zundiche Manasshastra based on two different books. The authors of those two books are from different eras, countries and different languages. The first of these was- "The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind" by Gustave Le Bon was originally written in French, later published in English in 1896. The second book, "The True Believer", was written in 1951 by American author Eric Hoffer. Vishwas Patil brought these two books in lucid Marathi, titled 'Zundi' and 'Sachcha Anuyayi' respectively. Further created a single book, 'Zundiche Manasshastra'. These two parts complement each other, blend in the subject matter forward. The first edition of the book came from Janpath Prakashan, Mumbai in 1978 and the new edition came from Sadhana Prakashan in 2020. The popularity of book is the same as four decades back.
