ही गोष्ट आहे फेब्रुवारी 2016 मधील. सर्वसामान्य कुटुंबातली पस्तिशीतली दोन मुलांची आई... एक गृहिणी सर्वोच्च न्यायालयात पोहोचली. काशीपूर, (उत्तराखंड)च्या शायराबानो यांची ही कहाणी. पतीने- रिझवान अहमदने त्यांना एकतर्फी तोंडी तलाक दिला. शायराबानो कुटुंबाच्या मदतीनं सर्वोच्च न्यायालयात याचिका घेऊन पोहोचल्या. तोंडी तलाक, बहुपत्नीत्व व हलाला या मुस्लिम वैयक्तिक कायद्यांमधील पद्धतींमुळे संविधानाने दिलेल्या मूलभूत हक्काचा भंग होतो आणि म्हणून या प्रथांवर बंदी आणावी, असं शायराबानो यांचं याचिकेतलं म्हणणं.आणि मग तोंडी तलाकचा प्रश्न एकाएकी माध्यमांच्या प्राईम- टाइममध्ये आला. शायराबानो या कायदेशीररीत्या लढा देऊन तलाकची प्रथाच मोडीत काढायला निघालेल्या पहिल्या महिला. त्या प्रवासाची व त्या संघर्षाची शायराबानोपासून सुरू होणारी आणि आफरीन रेहमान, गुलशन परवीन, इशरत जहाँ अशी वाटचाल करत अतिया साबरीपर्यंत पोहोचणारी ही गोष्ट. या महिलांना प्रत्यक्ष भेटून, बोलून हा रिपोर्ताज लिहिला आहे हिनाकौसर खान या पत्रकाराने.

The story dates back to February 2016, when a mother of two, belonging to an ordinary family, knocks at the door of the Supreme Court for justice. Husband- Rizwan Ahmed divorced Shairabano of Kashipur, (Uttarakhand) unilaterally via oral talaq. Shairabano filed petition to ban practice of oral divorce, polygamy and halala as per Muslim personal law. These laws violate the fundamental right enshrined in the Constitution, hence demanded complete scrapping of it. Triple Talaq became the talk of the town. Shairabano was the first woman to legally fight for divorce. This book embeds the story of that journey of struggle. Journalist Hinakausar Khan in her in-depth reportage writes stories of 5 women with the same suffering, starting from Shairabano, Aafreen Rehman, Gulshan Parveen, Ishrat Jahan, and Atiya Sabri. The stories are first hand accounts.
